MDT 2013 Guide 08: WDS and PXE Booting

Next we will configure WDS to allow machines to PXE boot and deploy from the MDT Deployment Share.

 

Creating the PXE Image

Open Deployment Workbench. Right-click on MDT Deployment Share and go to Properties. Click on the Windows PE tab.

Untick the Generate a Lite Touch bootable ISO image. We will be not be booting from an ISO, so no need to waste the time creating one.

Change the Platform to x64 and untick the ISO image option under there too.

Click OK to save.

Right-click on MDT Deployment Share and choose Update Deployment Share.

Choose Completely regenerate the boot images.

This can take a few minutes.

 

Adding the Boot Images to WDS

Open the Windows Deployment Services console.

Drill down to Boot Images, right-click and choose Add Boot Image…

Click on Browse… and browse to \DeploymentShare\Boot. Select the LiteTouchPE_x64.wim file.

Leave the name on the default and add the image.

 

Conclusion

In this post we created the boot image and added it to WDS. This completes all the necessary work before deployment of the gold image.
